The PS3 was designed and developed by Sony Computer Entertainment as a successor to the highly successful PlayStation 2 games console which to date has achieved total worldwide sales of 97.5 million units (as of January 2009). The PS3 however is designed to be more than just a traditional games console. It is a home entertainment computer that can be used for all of your digital media requirements and as a result it’s specification is vastly superior to that of its predecessor. The main areas of advancement compared to the previous generation PlayStation consoles are as follows: The technical heart of the PS3 is a specially designed CPU (central processing unit) named the Cell Processor (standing for Cell Broadband Engine Architecture) which was jointly developed by Sony, Toshiba and IBM over the four years from 2001 to 2005. The Cell Processor combines a general-purpose processor with additional processing elements which serve to greatly accelerate multimedia and grapical processing …

Pokemon Ruby Pokemon Ruby Pok mon Ruby’s updated graphics with weather effects, amazing sound, more than 200 Pok mon with over 100 new species–as well as its faithful adherence to the existing series of Pok mon games–makes for a welcome evolution in the series.

First, the game has a lot in common with Pok mon games Silver, Gold, and Crystal. For example, players can choose to be a boy or a girl trainer, an internal clock sets events at certain times, and you re the game’s handy-dandy Pok dex helps players keep track of the many stats. You’re main goal is still to beat all the Gym Trainers and become the Pok mon Master. If you’ve played the old games, you will be right at home. But not all is the same.

The most obvious change is in the battles themselves. Now that two Pok mon can fight on your side at the same time, you can tag-team them against an enemy by taking advantage of the strengths of your Pok mons while covering their weaknesses. For example, you can now have a water Pok mon watch your fire Pok mon’s back. You can also attack more than one Pok mon at a time.

A whole new element to the game focuses on how berries are used in battle. And if you collect enough berries, you can take them to a Berry Blender and make a Pok Block, which is a little super-charged candy that raises your Pok mon’s “Condition” attributes. You can then groom your Pok mon for regional contests and compete for ribbons like “Best of Show,” which will unlock additional contests. There’s even strategy in how to best use your berries: pick too many and the berry tree will disappear; plant berries, though, and a tree will grow. You can also build a Secret Base in special areas of the game, which you can decorate just like you can your room.

And let us not forget that Pok mon Ruby has a kickin’ multiplayer system, too. You can trade Pok mon, and link up to four players for incredible battles. The only downside is that you can’t link up with the old Game Boy Color games. –Bryan Karsh

Pros:

  • You can control two Pok mon in battle
  • Much needed graphic and sound facelift
  • Nice multiplayer feature (requires link cable and extra game cartridge)

Cons:

  • Can’t trade Pok mon with Game Boy Color

Customer Review: A Gem In Its Class
Having been a Pokemon fan for quite a number of years, I am proud to report that Pokemon Ruby is an excellent version in the Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald trilogy. My original game had to be replaced due to battery and saving issues but considering the age of this game, such problems can and will from time to time appear. To me this has been a fun “neverending” game and is my favorite of the “gem” trilogy. Whether “on the road” in my DS or in my Game Cube (with GBA adapter) Pokemon Ruby has been a constant and valued companion to this senior citizen. The game has excellent graphics and not bad sound. Play is excellent and enjoyable. If you’ve played the more recent Pokemon games and like them - I suggest you give the older generation of Pokemon games a try.
Customer Review: shipping

Customer Review: Gift for son
I bought this game as a present for my son. I was pleased with how quickly the item got to my house and mostly how easy it was to order on line. I will continue to order his games this way.
